GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A historic building near the Downtown Market in Grand Rapids will stay open—for now.
On Friday, a Kent County court hearing was held where Judge Curt Benson denied a motion to close the Sligh Furniture Company building over concerns that it's unsafe.
Three antique stores—Warehouse 1, Century Antiques and Lost & Found—are housed in the building and are trying to stop it from closing.
The owner of Century Antiques confirmed with 13 ON YOUR SIDE that a settlement conference is scheduled for next week. During this conference, a judge will hear a proposal from the building's owner to make the necessary repairs.
The judge could still order the building to be closed at some point.
