According to multiple reports in various outlets, South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers and his camp are finalizing a deal with the school that would bring him back next season. A report in On3 Sports states that the deal isn't done yet, but it's getting very close.
After breaking out during the 2024 season, Sellers entered the NFL Draft first round conversation. However, Sellers took a step back under Offensive Coordinator Mike Shula in 2025, and he just hasn't been the same player since.
Shula took the reigns just ahead of the 21-17 loss to Illinois in the Citrus Bowl, and Sellers started regressing from there. His completion percentage dropped about 5% points, while his yards per attempt average and passing yardage totals declined as well.
And after 18 touchdown passes and seven interceptions in '24, he put up 13 TD passes against eight picks this season. Head Coach Shane Beamer fired Shula in early November, and once new offensive coordinator Kendal Briles came aboard, Sellers showed signs of renewed promise.
and a reported NIL package over $10 million to boost his 2027 draft stock and elevate the team's SEC hopes.
Even despite a full season of falling well short of expectations, Sellers still had a high level of draft stock. ESPN's Mel Kiper, in his most recent rankings, slotted Sellers as the third quarterback of the boards for the 2026 Draft.
However, there are people in Sellers' camp who believe the QB needs another year in school to develop, and potentially improve his draft stock even further. And it makes perfect sense for him, given all the NIL money he can make in the meantime.
When you're a brand name QB like Sellers is, playing at an SEC school, the Name, Image and Likeness money flows freely. You know what they say: "it's a Sellers market" and his value could potentially earn him an eight figure NIL deal from South Carolina.
While it is tempting to enter the draft now, given how weak this year's draft class is, no one could fault Sellers for deciding to stay in school another year.
