EAST BERLIN, Pa. — For most people, a car is simply a way to get from one place to another. But for some, the car itself is the destination.
That’s the case for "Herbetta," a Volkswagen Beetle whose story captured hearts across the country after a handwritten letter found inside the car went viral earlier this year.
FOX43 first reported on the Beetle in August, when East Berlin resident Trisha Rosado discovered a goodbye note tucked behind the dashboard. The letter had been written decades earlier by the car’s previous owner, “Tree” Palmieri.
In the note, Palmieri thanked the Beetle for “keeping me safe” and “all the joy and fun we had,” adding, “you were my dream car, you made me feel special.”
Rosado had planned to dismantle the Beetle for parts. But the letter changed everything. Mo
