JASPER, Texas — A man has been arrested in Hardin County for his alleged role in an aggravated kidnapping involving a deadly weapon, according to Newton Police Chief Will Jackson.

Chief Jackson said the incident occurred Oct. 18, when 22-year-old Joseph Smith and three other men are accused of forcing a man into a car at gunpoint at a home on Woods Street in Newton County.

Authorities said the victim was then taken to a residence in Huntington, located in Angelina County, where he was assaulted.

The 23-year-old victim later went to the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office to report that he had been kidnapped and assaulted, Jackson said.

Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a dispute over property.
