Ceremonies across Boulder County on Saturday honored military veterans and encouraged moments of reflection this holiday season.
City officials in Boulder hosted the first wreath-laying ceremony for veterans at Columbia Cemetery in about a decade. More than 300 veterans are buried on the property, most of whom served in the Civil War, World War I or World War II.
This year, the city was able to purchase slightly more than 200 wreaths, which ensured that most of the graves were decorated. A week before the ceremony, volunteers braved cold weather to mark the graves that received holiday wreaths Saturday.
Mary Haskins, volunteer program lead for Boulder Parks and Recreation, said she was thrilled that so many people supported the ceremony’s return.
