WINONA LAKE – Warsaw didn't hit its first field goal until a Mydin Burgher 3-pointer at the first quarter buzzer, but the Tigers still earned their first win of the new season, 45-34 over Blackhawk Christian at the Grace College Champions of Character Basketball Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers (1-2) and Braves (3-2) were tied at 20 at halftime, but Warsaw held Blackhawk Christian to 14 points in the second half and just five in the fourth quarter.
"They're really good, a very good offensive team, and for us to hold them to 34 points, I thought that was an outstanding effort by us," said Warsaw coach Matt Moore, who faced a Blackhawk team averaging 68 points a game coming into Saturday.
