Apple TV’s For All Mankind is one of the best sci-fi shows streaming today, but a real-life astronaut has pointed out that it has a very fast-and-loose relationship with scientific accuracy. It’s not strictly necessary for science fiction to be scientifically accurate ; it can still have great stories and great characters even if it gets the science wrong.
But a show like For All Mankind , which grounds itself in the real-life science of space travel, should at least get the basics right. And according to a real-life astronaut, it gets all that stuff dead wrong. In fact, someone who’s actually been to space finds For All Mankind “ excruciating to watch, ” and found the series to be ridiculous beyond its initial plot setup.
