JOHNSTON, Iowa — Two Iowa Army National Guard Soldiers and a U.S. civilian were killed during an attack in Palmyra, Syria, Saturday. The soldiers were engaged in a key leader mission as part of ongoing efforts against ISIS and terrorism in the region.
Maj. Gen. Stephen Osborn, adjutant general of the Iowa National Guard, confirmed the loss. "Our priority right now is supporting the families of our fallen and wounded Soldiers," Osborn said.
In addition to the fatalities, three Iowa National Guard Soldiers were injured, with two evacuated for medical treatment. Their names are withheld due to privacy policies.
