GREENSBORO, N.C. — As colder temperatures move into the Triad, pet care experts say winter weather can bring added risks for dogs, especially smaller breeds and those spending time outdoors.
At All American Pet Resorts in Greensboro, staff say even active dogs can feel the effects of colder weather once temperatures drop.
“If it’s a little bit colder for you, if you’re feeling a little cold, then it’s most likely too cold for the dogs,” said Kayla Robinson, a K-9 care shift lead at the facility.
Robinson said dogs with thicker, double coats may tolerate colder temperatures better than others, but small and medium-sized dogs need to be monitored more closely during the winter months.
That includes making sure dogs have access to warm shelter, unfrozen water and extra layers when needed.
