PHOENIX — Echo Canyon, a popular Phoenix trail on Camelback Mountain, will reopen at sunrise on Sunday following a monthslong closure, officials announced on Saturday.

The trail temporarily closed on Oct. 16 due to safety concerns caused by the storms that moved through the Valley in the month of October.

The storms caused significant erosion, which made the trail unstable, as three loose boulders sat along the trail.

Geotechnical and civil engineers first conducted an erosion investigation before coming up with a finalized plan to stabilize the slope.

Crews then began restoration work in November by drilling multiple holes into each boulder to inject non-explosive expanding grout, allowing the boulders to be split safely for removal.
