WASHINGTON — D.C. Department of Public Works crews spent the day on Saturday preparing roads ahead of an expected snowfall , with hundreds of trucks ready to deploy once flakes begin to fall.
Warnique West, DPW's Citywide Snow Coordinator known as the “Snow Queen,” said about 200 trucks will be out across the District until the snow stops.
“I’m a Washingtonian,” West said. “To be able to do this type of work for my community where I was born and raised, it brings joy for me.”
West said crews spent the day treating the roads and will deploy plows once at least an inch accumulates on roadways.
“Once it starts falling, we will be continuously salting,” she said. “Once we get enough snow on the ground, at least an inch, that’s when we’ll drop plows and start pushing.”
