President Donald Trump said he's not surprised Russian President Vladimir Putin skipped proposed peace talks with Ukraine claiming "nothing's going to happen" until they both speak to each other in-person.

Trump, who publicly called on Putin to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Turkey on Thursday (May 15), made the claim while downplaying the Russian president's absence from the crucial discussions.

“Look, nothing’s going to happen until Putin and I get together. Okay?” Trump said on Air Force One when asked about the scheduled meeting via the New York Post .

“And obviously, he wasn’t going to go. He was going to go — but he thought I was going to go. He wasn’t going if I wasn’t there,” he continued. “And I don’t believe anything’s going to happen,
