A Baylor football died during a visit to his home state of Mississippi, the school announced Wednesday.

Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Alex Foster was 18.

The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson reported that he died after a shooting in the 1800 block of East Alexander Street near the intersection with North Colorado Street on Wednesday.

Police responded to the scene and found a male shot multiple times in a car. He was transferred to Delta Health Center, where he died 35 minutes later, according to the newspaper.

“We are heartbroken by the unexpected loss of Alex Foster, a beloved member of our football family,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Mack B. Rhoades said in a statement.
