Larry Hoover is being given a second opportunity — at the federal level.

President Trump has pardoned Hoover’s federal life sentences, confirmed Wednesday both by Hoover’s lawyer and the White House. Hoover, in his mid-70s, was serving six life terms at the federal Colorado supermax prison. His federal charges are for continuing to run the Gangster Disciples from prison — ordering murders, beatings, and cocaine deals. He was sentenced in 1997.

Hoover is not walking free despite not serving time for those federal crimes. He still has the remaining time on a 200-year sentence for a 1973 Chicago murder. He was initially sentenced to prison for that murder before federal charges were brought against him.
