BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - A new study at Texas A&M is looking into the impacts of pregnancy and alcohol on anxiety.

Andres Viana, director of the CARES Lab holding the study, told KBTX that while pregnancy is generally a happy period for families, many women struggle.

“About 25% of women will experience significant levels of anxiety and stress, which can have a significant impact on the baby’s health as well as the mother’s health,” he explained. “It’s associated with a number of complications including preterm delivery complications as well as parenting challenges later on.”

The study includes the relationship of anxiety and alcohol on pregnant people. Viana said a third of women will consume alcohol during pregnancy, despite recommendations.
