CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for three Charlotte-area counties on Sunday afternoon.

The National Weather Service placed Cabarrus, Gaston, and Mecklenburg counties under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 1.

A severe storm was moving toward the area as of about 5 p.m. Sunday. Officials said the storm could bring wind gusts of up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.

Minor hail damage to vehicles was possible, the National Weather Service said. Wind was expected to damage trees and power lines.
