As you’ve probably heard by now, GOP senator Joni Ernst last week responded to voter fears that Medicaid cuts will lead to people dying by declaring, “Well, we are all going to die.” Technically true, yes, but a weird way to address the concerns of one’s constituents. In fact, one might go so far as to call it cold, heartless, and borderline sociopathic. Of course, no one is perfect, and when speaking off the cuff, sometimes you say things in a way that you didn’t intend.

Given a bit of time to consider her words, did the senator from Iowa take a moment to sincerely apologize and explain that she actually does care about voters, assuring them that she is taking to heart their worries about the potential impact of the “big, beautiful bill” the House just passed along to the Senate?
