ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) — Multiple agencies, including an Asheville Police Department Bomb Squad, responded on Sunday after someone found an explosive device on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

According to the National Park Service, at around 11:45 a.m. officers and agents from the park service, APD bomb squad, FBI, SBI, and Riceville Fire Department were called to the parkway after receiving reports an improvised incendiary device had been located in a dirt pull-off on the parkway near the Folk Art Center.

The Folk Art Center was evacuated and a portion of the parkway was temporarily closed while crews removed the item.

National Park Service said there are no known threats to the public and the investigation into the device and how it was placed on the parkway remains under investigation.
