AXTELL, Neb. — The Nebraska Legislature passed the Ensuring Transparency in Prior Authorization Act last week which is now headed to Governor Jim Pillen for approval.

According to the Nebraska Hospitals Association, this will strengthen the framework for insurance companies to follow.

“Before this bill, Nebraska has had no regulations in place at all, so really, it was up to the insurance company," Jeremy Nordquist, NHA President, said. "There are some, some federal, limitations, but really, insurance kind of had a free, free rein in Nebraska.”

Nordquist also noted that there will now only be one standard prior authorization form for organizational purposes.

The biggest restriction, though, is on the denial claim and appeal process.
