Lincoln, NE — The Nebraska Legislature concluded its 109th session on Monday, adjourning a day earlier than planned. Speaker John Arch explained the decision, noting that the final day is typically reserved for veto overrides rather than passing bills on final reading. "Day 90 is really reserved for veto overrides. Generally, it's not a day of passing bills on final reading and you always run the risk of pocket vetoes with something like that," said Arch.
Governor Jim Pillen assured senators that no bills would be vetoed, allowing the session to close smoothly. Reflecting on the session, Arch said, "One of the constraints we’ve had this year is obviously budget constraints. We don’t have the money to do what we want to do. With that constraint, I think we have done what we needed to do."
