(NEW YORK) — As summer approaches, millions of Americans are preparing for vacations, whether by air or road. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) anticipates a busy travel season, predicting over 50,000 flights per day, including cargo flights. This marks a 4% increase in flight schedules compared to last summer.

United Airlines is expecting a record-breaking summer, projecting around 50 million passengers from June to August, which is about 3 million more than last year. American Airlines also plans to increase its operations, forecasting a 5% rise in flights. The airline noted that nearly five flights will depart every minute throughout the summer. American Airlines has identified Sunday, July 6, as its busiest day, with nearly 6,800 flights scheduled.

Travel experts from Expedia have highlighted several peak travel days, including Thursday, June 19 (Juneteenth); Friday, June 27; Tuesday, August 5; and Tuesday, August 26. To save on airfare, Hopper suggests flying midweek, specifically on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, which could lead to savings of up to 20%.

For those looking for the most economical days to fly domestically, Expedia indicates that Tuesday, August 19, and Monday, August 25, will likely offer the best prices due to a decrease in demand as summer travel winds down.

Popular domestic destinations this summer include Las Vegas, New York City, Orlando, Miami, Chicago, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Honolulu, Seattle, Los Angeles, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. On the international front, travelers are eyeing Cancun, Mexico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Paris; London; Tokyo; Rome; the Bahamas; and Barcelona, Spain.

For road travelers, there is good news regarding car rentals. Hopper reports that rental prices are stable compared to last year, averaging $47 per day. The cities with the highest demand for car rentals are Orlando, Las Vegas, and Denver, followed by Miami and Chicago. Florida cities are offering the most affordable rental rates, with daily averages of $26 or less in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Tampa.
