Lee Enterprises, the Globe Gazette's parent company, has confirmed a February cyberattack resulted in the theft of employees’ personal data.

In a letter filed with Maine’s attorney general, the company stated personal information of 39,779 people was stolen in the cyberattack, including Social Security numbers. Lee currently employs around 3,000 people, so the data breach apparently also included former employees.

A request for comment from Lee Enterprises was not immediately answered Wednesday.
