ARLINGTON, Va. (DC News Now) -- There's a lot of pride at the Long Bridge Aquatic and Fitness Center in preparation to host the inaugural Capital Cup around the DMV.
"It's very exciting just because we're usually not having local meets here," said Vercera Harvey-White, part of the DC Synchronasters, competing in synchronized and artistic swimming.
She's been part of the sport, which is sink or swim, since 1993.
"You have to have, like, strength. You have to have flexibility." Harvey-White explained. "You have to hold your breath while you're doing all these things underwater, and make it look easy."
The competitors are among the more than 3,000 athletes from around the world who are taking part in the inaugural World Pride Capital Cup.
