Ryan Lochte is diving into a new chapter.

Hours after his wife Kayla Reid announced the pair were ending their seven-year marriage , the 12-time Olympic medalist shared his thoughts on the split.

“This past year has brought major changes for both of us as we've come to the difficult decision to end our marriage,” Ryan—who shares kids Caiden , 7, Liv , 6, and Georgia , 23 months, with Kayla—wrote in a June 4 Instagram post. “I'm deeply grateful for the life we've built together and especially for the love we share for our three children.”

And while the athlete acknowledged his breakup with the former Playboy Playmate has been hard, he noted it is for the best.
