MILFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — An 18-year-old student at Milford High School in Massachusetts who was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over the weekend is expected to face a judge Thursday.

Marcelo Gomes da Silva was driving to volleyball practice on Saturday when he was pulled over and arrested.

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons confirmed that agents were searching for Gomes da Silva’s father, 38-year-old Joao Paulo Gomes-Pereira, who owns the vehicle that Gomes da Silva was driving at the time.

Now, Gomes da Silva is being held at a detention center in Burlington, Mass.

His family, including his father, released a video on Wednesday in which they pleaded for the government to set him free.
