WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A man previously convicted of murder was sentenced to over three years in prison after he was caught having a loaded gun and a bag full of marijuana and cocaine while he was on probation.

Court documents say that 24-year-old Jayvon Gattison was sentenced to prison after shooting and killing a man who tried to rob him during a drug transaction in October 2018.

Officers spotted the group and recognized the smell of burning marijuana. All of the individuals were arrested.

A Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officer took the joint from Gattison, and it field-tested positive for THC.
