WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A Watertown man is accused of leading police on a chase through the city before crashing into a tree just feet away from a home.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office charged 48-year-old Anthony Belden with resisting arrest and unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle.
Officials say Belden was wanted for a probation violation. When a deputy approached him in a State Street parking lot Thursday morning to arrest him, Belden allegedly drove off.
He was spotted later on North Indiana Avenue. Again, officials say Belden was parked and when the deputy approached him, he sped off.
He was allegedly driving 30 miles per hour over the speed limit, missed a turn on North Hamilton Street, went off the road, through a front yard and struck a tree.
