CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — State regulators announced West Virginia cell phone users will see an increase in bills starting next month to improve emergency services.

A 10.2% increase is slated for July 1 as a wireless enhanced 911 fee will raise from $3.64 to $4.01, according to a news release from the West Virginia Public Service Commission.

In addition, the news release said an 8-cent wireless tower fee and 29-cent public safety wireless charge will result in a hike totaling $4.38 per month.

Regulators noted the fees, created by state lawmakers, will be subject to change every two years.

The PSC said regulators will collect the money and distribute it to counties based on usage.
