An 85-year-old motorcyclist who crashed Wednesday night with another vehicle along Highway 178 near Ridgecrest was identified as John Gardner Turner Jr., of Ridgecrest.

The Kern County coroner said on June 4, 2025, at around 8:20 p.m., Turner was riding a motorcycle along Highway 178 at North Calvert Boulevard when the crash happened. He was taken to Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, where he died shortly later.

The California Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
