WASHINGTON — Every day, millions of people drive along the Northern Virginia toll and express lanes. It’s not always cheap.
“I live out in Gainesville and come to Arlington every day,” Northern Virginian native Jonathan Bennet said. “One trip, one way from there is $60 bucks on the express lanes.”
At certain times, based on traffic flow, if it’s congested, express lanes can have high costs.
Bennet wanted to know: “How much is that generating? How long does that go on for? And where does the money go?”
It turns out. Bennett’s question is pretty complicated. We spoke to an expert from George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government .
