DIETERICH, Ill. (WCIA) -- Some veterans dream of taking an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. -- but one man from Dieterich needed a little bit more convincing to go.
79-year-old Roger Newenham didn't want to leave the house. He was used to doing activities with his wife --- but this time he had to go alone, not knowing who would be there to greet him once he landed.
Newenham wasn't thrilled about taking an honor flight and going to see the memorials in Washington D.C.
"Honestly, I never really thought of it. I never thought of even doing it until my kids got it started and everything," Newenham said.
It was his children who thought it'd be exciting and good for him to get the experience. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam era for four years.
