CALEXICO — Seventeen years ago Roberto Moedano, as a senior at Calexico High School, did not know what he wanted to pursue after graduation, but he also knew he was really good at math.
He applied, and after he was luckily accepted at UCLA, graduated within four years with a degree in bio medicine, but it was not a field he desired.
“It taught me self growth and I learned a lot,” he said of his time at UCLA.
At the urging of one of his teachers at CHS Moedano applied for a Bill and Melinda Gates Scholarship that is worth $250,000 for higher education.
He said his family was anything but rich, so he needed a scholarship of some type.
