The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced Thursday that Media, a Chinese electrical appliance manufacturer, announced the recall of 1.7 million U and U+ Window Air Conditioners due to risk of mold exposure.
The U.S. CPSC says the pooled water in the air conditions can fail to drain quickly enough which can lead to mold growth.
Consumers with recalled air conditioners are asked to contact Midea for a free repair or a full prorated refund that is based on the purchase date or date of manufacture.
The firm says at least 152 reports of mold in the air conditioners, including 17 reports of consumers experiencing symptoms from mold exposure.
Common symptoms of mold exposure include respiratory infections, nasal congestion, coughing, wheezing, and itchy, watery eye
