HANNIBAL (WGEM) - According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, meat prices have continued to rise year-over-year. One butcher in Hannibal explained that locally sourcing her meat is proving to be financially beneficial.
Hannibal Butcher Nikki Barr explained that buying local meat could be more financially beneficial.
“That’s kind of the benefit of shopping local and eating local is that they’re less affected by those global issues that cause some of those price fluctuations,” Barr said.
Barr is the co-owner of Langhorne Meats and Provisions and has been open for about a year. She said that using meat from close farms, there are fewer operating expenses.
