Kingston is known for its many train crossings, accompanied by blaring horns at all hours and backups of traffic.

CSX Transportation will add a few detours to the mix in August, as three train crossings are scheduled for maintenance and improvements. Mayor Steve Noble seemed to suggest it was his administration’s nudging that ultimately spurred the company to make “much-needed improvements” only after he reached out “with concerns and demands”.

“A temporary inconvenience will address long-term safety concerns,” Noble said in a statement. He did not specify exactly what improvements needed to be made.

The first train crossing to be closed down will be the Foxhall Avenue crossing on Sunday, August 17. This area is known by locals to be particularly dicey due to the tendency for traffic to
