Majority of Canadians felt King’s visit was important show of sovereignty, poll finds

More than half of the country saw the flying visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Ottawa last month as an important moment in the face of threats by U.S. President Donald Trump , according to a new poll.

The survey, conducted for The Globe and Mail by Nanos Research, found 54 per cent of Canadians felt the visit was important (rating it seven to 10 out of 10) in asserting Canada’s sovereignty, after suggestions by Mr. Trump that Canada should become the 51st state .

Meanwhile, 16 per cent felt that it was moderately important (a score of four to six). Another 29 per cent, however, thought it was not important at all.
