Mark Carney is defending his decision to invite India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to this month’s G7 summit in Alberta despite an investigation into the South Asian country’s involvement in the 2023 slaying of Canadian Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Former prime minister Justin Trudeau publicly accused India of a role in the gangland-style killing of Nijjar, a prominent advocate for a separate state for Sikhs in the Indian state of Punjab. India has denied the allegation.
