AKRON — Gibsonburg took an early three-run lead in Friday Division VI state softball semifinal, but the Golden Bears were ultimately unable close the deal in the late innings Friday in a 10-4 loss to Sugarcreek Garaway at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

The unranked Pirates sent 10 batters to the plate in rallying for six runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to break away from a tie at 4 and advance to Sunday's championship game.

Garaway (20-10) will face unbeaten and second-ranked New Madison Tri-Village (29-0) in the final at 11 a.m. at Firestone Stadium. The Patriots advanced with a narrow 1-0 win over unranked Dalton in Friday's earlier semifinal.
