ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Albuquerque is home to one of the longest-running pride parades in the country. Its history goes back decades.

It started in 1976 with 25 people near Morningside Park.

"Metropolitan Community Church of Albuquerque was instrumental in starting that first event in 1976, along with a GLB organization," said PJ Sedillo, an archivist for Albuquerque Pride.

The organization was called Juniper, a local student group at UNM.

"Twenty-five brave individuals walked from up from Morningside and Central with no fanfare, no news like now. They proceeded to walk down to Yale Park, which is where the bookstore is now at UNM," Sedillo sad. "When it was over, they needed to walk back to their cars.
