ST. CLOUD, Fla. – Charged with two felony counts of racketeering and facing a prolonged suspension from his position as Osceola County Sheriff, Marcos Lopez has more pressing challenges than having become the source of mockery on social media.

But the outrage over his alleged activity is notable. Memes on Facebook spread like wildfire Thursday and Friday. Many of the memes and posts touched on a similar theme: the perceived hypocrisy on display by Lopez.

During his tenure as sheriff, Lopez would often post on Facebook about the suspects his deputies had apprehended. Videos featured Lopez describing the alleged crimes, deploying rhetoric that mocked suspects, accompanied by snazzy graphics.
