State pensioners are being urged to unplug multiple appliances after losing the £300 Winter Fuel Payment. Which? warns unplugging zombie appliances and energy-guzzling white goods, in particular speakers and TVs.

Offenders include TVs, speakers, sound bars, PCs, consoles, and set-top boxes. Which? said of smart speakers: “They're the most power-hungry gadgets in standby, costing around £6 per year (based on 20 standby hours per day).”

It comes as the need to maximise cash continues for older people, owing to the removal of the £300 Winter Fuel Allowance from the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ), with the funds set to be reinstated for some but NOT all.
