The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) tells 1130 NewsRadio two people and their sailboat have been successfully rescued after getting caught in some rough water near Galiano Island.
JRCC Acting Sub-Lt. Kim Wachockier says they received a report of the boat having difficulty about two nautical miles off of Active Pass shortly before noon.
The centre worked with a Canadian Coast Guard lifeboat and a Royal Air Force CH-149 Cormorant helicopter from Comox to find the sailboat.
“The Cormorant conducted an aerial search to help locate the vessel as communications with the sailboat were fairly limited,” Wachockier said.
“Once located, began just one very successfully secured a tow line and brought the vessel to shore.”
