Nearly two million dozen eggs are being recalled due to potential salmonella contamination.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced June 6 that August Egg Company, based in Hilmar, California, is recalling 1.7 million dozen brown cage free and brown certified organic eggs due to a potential salmonella contamination.
The affected eggs were distributed within various retail locations across the United States.
August Egg Company shared in a statement that after the issue was identified, the company “immediately began diverting all eggs from the plant to an egg-breaking facility, which pasteurizes the eggs and kills any pathogens.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that as of June 5, 79 people from 7 states have been infected with the outbreak strain of salmon
