NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Several law enforcement agencies from across the state are warning Tennesseans about a swathe of scam text messages that have been recently popping up on people's phones.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS), the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), and multiple other law enforcement agencies warned about scam text messages that say they're coming from the state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

TDOSHS said the messages claim the recipient has outstanding traffic tickets and threatens their car registration and driver's license status if the fines are not paid. They said some of the messages will include a link to a fake website that's meant to look like the actual TDOSHS site.
