RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WSCO) warned Sunday, June 8, about a fake DMV text scam, according to the agency’s Facebook post at 12:30 p.m.

In order to identify a fraudulent text, look for these identifiers.

- message sent from an international numbers like +63 964 962 3887

- “final notice” claim

- suspicious link ( https://dot.nv-govag.icu/us )

- false threat of vehicle registration suspension, driving privileges revocation, and credit score damage

Red flags include:

- message(s) sent from outside the U.S.

- suspicious .icu domain instead of an official .gov address

- no personal details such as name, ticket number, or vehicle information

- urgent and threatening language
