Across Leeds, mobile speed cameras are in force as the authorities attempt to reduce the number of crashes.
These cameras are put in place by the West Yorkshire Police Camera Enforcement Unit on the behalf of the West Yorkshire Safety Camera Partnership. They are put in place in two types of area.
A Core camera site is an area with a high level of casualties and speeding, while a community concern site is an area highlighted by locals as a spot which could benefit from a mobile speed cameras.
The cameras shine a laser on passing cars, which works in a range of light and weather conditions. This laser then determines the speed of the passing vehicle. Enforcement can take place at any time, seven days a week.
