AUSTIN, Texas — A protest was held outside the Texas State Capitol building on Monday evening in solidarity with anti-ICE protests happening in Los Angeles.
The Party for Socialism and Liberation organized the protest on Monday afternoon as an "emergency" response .
The protest started off at the Capitol before hundreds of demonstrators marched over to the J.J. Federal Building on Eighth Street, calling for an end to immigration crackdowns in workplaces and courthouses. Protesters told KVUE they felt anxiety and outrage over unrest in L.A.
The Austin rally ended with some confrontations between police, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and protesters. Law enforcement officials also fired tear gas, demanding protesters leave and detaining anyone who resisted.
