OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Attorneys General of Iowa and Nebraska have joined a multi-state effort pushing Instagram to do more to protect users’ privacy and safety.
Nebraska AG Mike Hilgers and Iowa AG Breanna Bird are among a coalition of 37 attorneys general demanding change from the social media platform, specifically about its new location-sharing features.
If a user enables the feature, it displays their live location on a map.
In a letter to the head of Instagram , the AGs said the feature poses serious threats specifically for children and survivors of domestic abuse.
They want Instagram to make it so minors cannot enable location sharing and to send an alert to adults explaining the risks of the feature.
