HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - A late-night altercation on Thursday led to the death of a man and injuries to a woman in Huntsville.

Officers responded to a call on the 3900 block of Battlefield Drive, discovering Daeshawn Lewayne Garner on the porch and detaining him.

Inside the home, police found Phillip Ladarous Garner, 35, suffering from knife wounds. Despite efforts to save him, Phillip died from his injuries. An adult female was also injured but is expected to recover.

Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit took charge of the investigation. They determined that Daeshawn, who lived with Phillip, attacked him with a knife during an argument. The female victim was hurt when she tried to intervene.

Daeshawn Garner was arrested and is facing charges of murder and assault.
