MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEVV) — Police arrested a Madisonville man after they say he opened fire at a local apartment complex.

Around 3 a.m. Sunday, officers were called to the Hidden Hills apartments on Allison Avenue by a resident who said they heard several gunshots coming from their neighbor's apartment.

While still on the phone with the caller, dispatchers said they could hear gunshots in the background.

Police say they arrived at the suspect's apartment and looked through the window, where they noticed an open container of alcohol. They say a fresh handgun shell casing was also seen in front of the apartment.

Due to the danger of the situation, officers began clearing out neighboring apartments and setting up a perimeter.
